Clean your blender in 30 seconds

With those New Year’s resolutions making us reach for the green smoothie, our blenders are getting Cleaners in Cheltenham Green Smoothietheir annual moment in the spotlight.  To clean yours, all you need is hot water, a little dish soap and a few seconds.  Fill your blender half-way with the hot water, add a few drops of washing liquid, put the lid on and then blend.  Once done, rinse the soapy water out and your blender will look as good as new.  If the sides of the jug are looking a bit dull, add half a cup of vinegar to your mixture to get the sparkle back.

Freshening up a whiffy chopping board

Using water and dishwashing detergent can weaken surface wood fibres on cutting boards and butcher blocks or countertops. All you need for this eco-friendly hack is a lemon and some table salt.  Simply cut the lemon in half and dip both halves in a bowl of table salt until coated.  Then, with a little elbow grease, get scrubbing!  Follow up with a quick rinse under running water to leave your board fully freshened.  The salt works as a scourer, lifting out any embedded food residue, whilst the lemon leaves the board smelling fresh once more.  To thoroughly disinfect your wooden surfaces, give them a wipe with full strength white vinegar.  The acetic acid in the vinegar is a good disinfectant, effective against such harmful bugs as E. coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus.

Removing stubborn coffee residue from your coffee grinder

After you’ve ground up the coffee beans, often it’s tricky to get the residue out of the hard to reach places in your kitchen gadget.  A simple resolution is to tear up a slice of bread and put it in the grinder.  Whizz it for a minute and then tip out.  The bread will mop up any coffee residue and will tip out effortlessly.  This trick also works with rice – add a 1/3 of a cup to the grinder and watch it work its magic.

Getting rid of the splattered food on your stove rings

Food landing on your stove can be relatively easy to clear up if tackled immediately, but if it’s left for a Cleaners in Cheltenham Stove Topwhile and becomes further baked on, it can seem an impossible task.  Unless you use this handy hack, that is!  In a bowl, add 1 part bicarbonate of soda to 1 part hydrogen peroxide.  Mix together, then using a sponge, apply liberally to your stove elements and rings.  Leave to work for 15 minutes and then rinse off with water.  Your stove will be sparkling once more!

Rescue your burnt pans

We’ve all left the rice boiling whilst we go do something more exciting with our life, only to return to the kitchen and find it thoroughly welded to the bottom of the pan.  It seems as if nothing will shift the mess, even a run through the dishwasher, and you’d be forgiven for suspecting we have shares in a bicarbonate of soda business when we recommend you reach for the magic white powder again.  Add half a cup to your pan and then fill to halfway with water.  Bring the mix to the boil and then gently scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon.  In no time, all the grime will have lifted and your pan will be back to its original state after a quick rinse under running water.

Putting your cast iron back to its former glory

Iron SkilletCast iron is a versatile and robust material to use in the kitchen but it can be a more time-consuming pan to clean than others.  But with this simple hack, it’ll take you just a few, quick minutes.  Firstly, add half a cup of table salt and a few drops of water and put the pan on a low heat to gently warm the mixture.  With a wooden spoon, use the salt to scrape away at the hardened food.  Wipe up the salt and residue and then treat your cast iron by wiping it with oil using a kitchen towel or cloth.  Remember to do the outside of the pan as well to ward off any rust.
